I'm Dr. Douglas VanNostrand. I hold a PhD in Bible Exposition from Liberty University.
I serve as principal of Perth Bible Christian Academy in Perth, NY — a small K3-12 school built on the conviction that education and discipleship are not separate projects. I teach and preach at Perth Bible Church under Pastor Jordan Davoll, lead Bible studies, and walk alongside individuals, couples, and families through counseling.
I was homeschooled K-12 and loved every year of it. My parents did remarkable work, and homeschooling remains a beautiful path for the families called to it. Through years of teaching, pastoring, and now leading a school of my own, I've also come to see what Christian school education uniquely offers — a daily community of teachers, peers, and shared worship that forms students in ways most of us can't replicate alone in a kitchen or living room, however faithful we are. It isn't either/or. It's discerning what God is calling your family to in this season.
Why this site
My life verse is Philippians 1:21 — "For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain." That verse organizes everything I do. Every classroom decision, every sermon, every counseling conversation, every Bible study — the question is the same: does this give God glory, and does it help God's people grow?
My heartbeat is the unity and maturing of the church. I wrote my dissertation, Yielding Fruit: The Relationship of Love, Unity, and Spiritual Gifts, on exactly that — what it takes for the body of Christ to grow together in love, with the gifts God has given each member working as God designed. That work is the engine behind most of what I write here.
I write for pastors, elders, deacons, and lay leaders building healthy churches; for parents weighing Christian education; for fellow educators wrestling with the practical side of teaching the next generation to know God and serve God well; and for anyone in the pew who wants to grow up into the full measure of Christ. I'm not selling a method. I'm sharing what I've learned, what I've gotten wrong, and what I think is worth fighting for.
My wife Amy and I have been married since 2010 and we have four young children at home. They are the daily reminder of why any of this matters.

Premarital and Marriage Counseling
I do premarital preparation for engaged couples and marriage counseling for couples wanting to grow or working through a difficult season. Most of the people I work with come through church referral.
